One of my favorite (and the easiest!) ways to save money is by stocking up on foods when the prices are at their lowest. I can buy foods for 50-60% of their regular prices. The best part about stocking up when things are on sale is that it doesn’t take a lot of my time. Just stock up to really save money on your grocery bill. Check out what to buy (and skip) in March.
Seasonal Produce
We still don't have a lot of seasonal produce right now in March. You can find deals on Artichokes, Avocados, Beets, Broccoli, Cauliflower, Leeks, Lemons, Limes, Potatoes, Tangerines, and Spinach. Plus expect to see lots of sales on cabbage because of Saint Patrick's Day.
Frozen Foods
March is national frozen foods month. If your family regularly eats frozen foods it is a wonderful time to stock up on everything from frozen pizza to frozen fish. We will see lots of good sales and coupons to go with the deals. I love to buy some frozen pizzas when they are on sale. I use them for busy nights when I don't feel like cooking.
Household Cleaners
In addition to frozen food month, March is also spring cleaning month. We will see sales and deals on all the household cleaners and supplies. Stock up on enough to last you a couple of months. I can often find cleaners for free or very cheap. I will buy as much as I think I will use in one year. It’s a great way to save money on those household supplies.
Chocolate
Valentine’s Day is over and we will see lots of clearance chocolates and candy. Although some of the candy may be marked for Valentine’s Day you can still stock up on chocolates for baking and cooking.
St. Patrick’s Day Foods
St. Patrick’s Day is in March and will bring good deals on corned beef, cabbage, and other St. Patrick’s Day items. Wait until after St. Patrick’s Day to really see some deals. If your family likes corned beef you can buy and freeze it. I like to grab a few on clearance and freeze them. Corned beef makes an easy crock pot meal.
Skip It
Easter is still weeks away but the stores have the candy and toys everywhere! Skip the Easter items for now and wait until closer to the beginning of April to buy anything. You will save more money. Also, try to skip all the spring clothes that are out. Most things like shorts and short sleeve shirts are still full priced. Sales on summer clothes won't really start until mid-April.
So grab a couple of great deals this month to really save some extra cash. Want to know the best things to buy every month? Check out my what to buy and when? a guide to sales cycles. What do you plan on stocking up on in March?
