5 Uses For A Spin Mop

I have always had a love for infomercials. I can get sucked into one in a second and easily spend an hour watching them. If they are cleaning infomercials it's even better. It's amazing what some of the cleaning products claim to do.

So when the spin mop came out I was so excited. It made cleaning everything look so easy. I held off until a couple of months ago when I found a great deal at Aldi. Mine is very similar to the one here. I was telling my sister how great the spin mop was when she mentioned you could use it on more than just floors.

Since then I have been using the spin mop all around the house. There are so many uses for a spin mop beyond just mopping the floor. In case you have been on the fence about buying one here are a few of my favorite uses for a spin mop.

Clean Hardwoods

I don't like mopping our hardwood floors too often because it leaves them too wet. However, I can get the spin mop really dry by spinning it a bunch of times and I feel it is much better on the hardwoods. If you don't like to use water on hardwoods you can use the mop completely dry to sweep up any dirt or debris.

Clean Baseboards

This was a game changer for me! I hate cleaning baseboards and don't do it that often. The spin mop can easily clean the baseboards around a room in minutes. I just rolled the head of the mop around the edges of the baseboard to get them clean. I am sure that it doesn't do as well as when I go around on my hands and knees and scrub them with a magic eraser, but to get off some dust and small spills this works great.

Clean Tile in Bathroom

We have some tile walls in our bathroom and around the tub that are a pain to clean. Much like the baseboards, I don't clean them as often as I should. I am easily able to wipe down the tile with the spin mop and get it free from dust and grime. It only takes a few minutes to wipe them down. Before I mop the floor in the bath I just give the tile a quick wipe down with the mop.

Clean Walls

Cleaning the walls is a nightmare. You usually need a ladder to reach the top of the walls and really get them clean. One of my favorite new uses for a spin mop is cleaning the walls with it. I just use a little H2 Basic in the water and get my spin mop very dry. Then I can start at the top of the wall and clean my way down. It makes cleaning the walls a breeze.

Clean Crown Molding

I only clean the crown molding when it gets dirty or has cobwebs. However, much like the walls cleaning crown molding involved a ladder before the spin mop. Now I just take the spin mop (dry not wet) and run it around the crown molding. Any of the dust or cobwebs just stick to the spin mop and come off in the wash.

Is the spin mop the answer to all your cleaning problems? No, not really. I know they say on some of the infomercials that you never have to sweep before you mop. Maybe it's the insane amount of fur from my dogs but I have not found this to be true. I have also heard people say it's great for cleaning shower doors, but I will just stick to my crazy no-scrub method. You will still of course occasionally have to really scrub things like the baseboards and tile, but it will help keep them looking cleaner longer.

However, I love the fact I can wash the heads after every use. I just toss them in the washing machine to get them clean again. Plus the fact that I can control how much moisture if any is in the mop, is great. Overall it is a big time saver as long as you don't mind having a few more cleaning tools in your closet. This is one cleaning gadget that is going to stick around in my house.
