Trying to save more money? Buying products at the right time can really help you save. You can get more out of your money just by purchasing products when they are at their lowest price.
Buying while foods are in season doesn’t take a lot of time. Just stock up on foods when they are at their cheapest, so you can have them all year. Check out the best things to buy in December to really help stretch your budget.
Seasonal Produce
Although we don't see a lot of in season produce this month, there will be some good deals. Cabbage, Brussels Sprouts, Winter Squash, Apples, Oranges, Potatoes, Onions, Beets, Carrots, and Sweet Potatoes will all be in season. By purchasing foods like apples or oranges instead of strawberries you can save your family money.
Foods
We will see lots of sales on baking supplies. Flour, sugar, cake mixes, spices, and chocolate will all be on sale this month. There will also be a lot of sales on canned goods. Stock up on soups, sauces, and more. Some easy prep holiday meal items will be on sale too. Canned gravy, instant mashed potatoes, frozen pies and rolls.
Other Items
December is a great time to stock up on wrapping paper for next Christmas. You can also find great deals on Christmas decorations. I always love to head out early on December 26th to buy wrapping paper, bows, Christmas decorations and perfume and cologne. Usually all the stores put their Christmas collection of perfume and cologne half off. It is the cheapest time to buy it. I try to buy enough to last all year long.
What do you like to stock up on in December?
Tracy says
I like to stock up on candles. I always am able to pick up some great deals after Christmas and I can find my favorite scent Vanilla. Sometimes I can even find toiletries at a great price by picking up some of the prepackaged kits after Christmas.

The toiletries deals are my favorite. I look forward to December 26th just so I can go get some deals.

We always buy our Christmas cards for the next year after Christmas. They are so inexpensive! I also find many candles on sale after Christmas. Pine scents, holiday baking scents, etc. smell just as good even after Christmas is over!

I love those holiday candles. I never thought about buying them after the holidays. I might have to buy a few and put them away with the Christmas decorations. Thanks!

I always stock up on holiday foods like turkey and cranberries and freeze them for later. I also try to buy plain looking wrapping paper, tissue paper, and gift bags (like solid colors such as silver, gold, red, and green but without holiday prints) to use throughout the year. December is also a great time to stock up on gifts for random events like weddings, showers, birthday parties, etc.
Julie says
What a great idea! I always buy my next years wrapping paper in December, but I never thought about buying some for birthdays and other events. Thanks for the tip!

I love these ideas, especially at the grocery store. You are excactly right about all the sales on baking goods. I go out every year after Christmas and buy paper products: plates, dessert plates, and napkins. I use them the next year as teacher gifts. Everyone seems to really enjoy them! What a blessing to be your neighbor at Raising Homemakers.

Great tip! Thanks for stopping by.

Every December I wind up wishing I'd saved more money to stock up on things like extra deals on foods. I often find good deals on gym shoes this time of year, too.
Julie says
Thanks for the idea. I am guessing most people are shopping for gifts and you can probably find some great deals on gym shoes. It seems like my kiddo is always needing new shoes, so I would love to find a good deal.
