I love finding new ways to save money. Over the years I have found so many different frugal living tips. I have found that some ways of saving money take way too much of my time and aren't worth it. Some are quick and easy frugal living tips that I love to use. If you want to help stretch your budget and save your family money check out the best frugal living tips.
Make Your Own Cleaners
Making your own household cleaners instead of buying them is a great frugal living tip. You can usually make your own cleaners for about a tenth of the cost of buying them in the store. They work just as well as the store-bought and you know exactly what is going into each cleaner. You can see a few of my favorite cleaners you can make yourself.
Use The Envelope System
If you don't already use cash and the envelope system I highly recommend it. You don't have to worry about overspending or going into debt when you are using cash. You can make sections for things you use like groceries, gifts, dining out, personal cash, clothing and offering money. You can see how we use the envelope system here.
Plan Meals
Planning out your evenings and meals is one of the best frugal living tips. Just a few minutes once a week and you can make sure you have a dinner that works with your schedule. Make a list of everything you need and plan your weekly meals. If you need some tips on weekly meal planning you can check out my favorite tips here. I have found that if I don’t have a good list I forget something and then I am back at the store spending even more money
Stock Up
See a deal at the grocery store on something your family loves? Just buy a couple extra. It’s one of the best frugal living tips. If you know your family really loves it you can buy anywhere from a couple extra to a 3 month supply. I like to do this with breakfast bars. My family eats a lot, so when they go on a fantastic sale I will buy 15-20 boxes. It only takes a minute or two to put the extras in your cart and store them. You can easily save up to 50% on the foods your family love by doing this.
Regrow Vegetables
Not only can you save money by regrowing vegetables, but it is also a lot of fun. If you have kids you can get them involved in regrowing the leftovers. Basil, celery, and green onions are just a few of the plants that you can regrow in your kitchen. You can see a list of ideas and how to regrow them here. Regrowing your own vegetables isn't just a frugal tip, it's fun too.
Freezing Foods
Freezing foods is another great frugal living tip. You can either buy foods on sale and freeze them or freeze foods before they go bad. I am always amazed at all the different foods you can freeze. Milk, eggs, and even butter can be frozen. We make huge batches of pancakes and freeze them for an easy breakfast. You can see a full list of foods that are easy to freeze here.
If you are often busy in the evenings you can make freezer meals to make your life easier. There are thousands of freezer meal recipes on Pinterest. I have a freezer meal Pinterest board you can follow me on here. You can easily find recipes your family will love. You can see how I made 8 freezer meals for under $40 here. This is one of the best frugal living tips.
Cut Cable
One of the best frugal living tips I can give you is to cut cable. Cable can be ridiculously expensive and you can still watch your favorite tv shows without cable. For around $10-$15 dollars a month you can watch most of the shows that are on cable. It can easily save you hundreds of dollars a year.
DIY
Anytime you can learn something new instead of paying someone to do it for you it's a great way to save. You can learn to paint, cut hair or grow a garden and really save some cash. Check out these 6 skills that will save you money. These are some of the best frugal living tips I have tried. I love growing my own food to save money.
Buy Used
Buying used is one of my favorite ways to save money. I get what I want for less money. It’s a win-win. Last year I found a coach purse on sale at a retail shop for $20. I didn’t have the money to buy a new coach purse and I didn’t want a cheap purse. By purchasing used I was able to get something nice that I normally couldn’t afford. You can see a few of my favorite things to buy used here.
Make From Scratch
One of the things I love about being a stay at home mom is how I have more free time. Things that never seemed worth doing when I worked, is now easy to do at home. I make my own strawberry jam every summer, I make some of my own bread. These are all the kind of things that I wouldn’t have spent my time on when I worked, but now that I have more time I can easily help save by making things from scratch. Check out these 10 foods you should be making instead of buying to really save some money.
