I used to love the Comet cleaner that you buy in the store. It made my sink so shiny clean. Unfortunately, it stains all of my microfiber cloths blue. So recently, I switched to making my own rosemary sink cleaner.
Not only is this sink cleaner easy to make, it also smells great and is free of the chemicals found in some of the store-bought brands. Plus, you only need three ingredients to make it. Unlike using just a dish detergent, it is mildly abrasive so it's perfect for getting out those small scuffs in the sink.
I start by adding about two cups of baking soda to a canning jar. Then I add two tablespoons of salt. Both the baking soda and salt are abrasive to help clean better. If you are concerned about scratching your sink you can also use just baking soda.
Finally, I add about 15-20 drops of Rosemary essential oil. You can add any scent you like, I just love the smell of Rosemary.
Then add a lid to your jar, I am completely in love with these Ball Shaker Lids. They are kind of pricey on Amazon, but I picked up two for $1.98 at Meijer. They just screw right on to the canning jar and turn it into a shaker.
Now just shake the mixture up and sprinkle some in your sink. Although my sink looks fairly clean, if you look closely you can see all kinds of scuffs. My mixing bowl is the worst at leaving these.
I sprinkle a small amount of cleaner in the sink and then scrub with a microfiber cloth. The cleaner helps get rid of scuffs and loosens stuck on food too.
Once you are done scrubbing then spray the sink down. Not only does it look cleaner but it smells great too.
It's not perfect, but many of the scuffs are now gone. Best of all there isn't a chemical smell, my kitchen smells like fresh rosemary.
Rosemary Sink Cleaner
2 Cups Baking Soda
2 Tablespoons Salt
15-20 Drops Rosemary Essential Oil
Mix 2 cups baking soda and 2 tablespoons salt in a jar. Add 15-20 drops of rosemary essential oil to baking soda mixture. Add shaker lid and shake to combine. Sprinkle a small amount in a damp sink and scrub with a microfiber cloth. Spray down the sink when you are done.

Sounds lovely. I just use baking soda on most surfaces (when I actually clean). Vinegar in the sink because it's a disinfectant. The smell does leave something to be desired, but it dissipates quickly enough.

I'll definitely be giving this a try. Here's a tip though...Instead of paying for a shaker top for canning jars, use the screw on lid of a container of parmesan cheese. It fits perfectly and it's something you like were going to throw away.

Great tip! Thanks

I have a stainless steel sink and this worked great! I couldn't believe how dirty my "clean" sink really was!

I am so glad it worked for you! I have only tried it in a porcelain sink, so I am so excited to hear it works great in stainless steel sink too. Thanks for sharing.

I've just found this and am anxious to try it. The sink in my condo is a much older one and gets scuffed easily and not even comet will clean it out. Needless to say if this works even a little bit, it would be great and to have a clean fresh smell throughout my kitchen will be an added bonus!

Let me know how it works for you.
