Inside: Don't want all the chemicals from silver cleaner? Check out how to use toothpaste to clean silver. It's so easy and smells great too!

For years I just used the store-bought silver polish to polish my silver. I had tried a few of the tricks without much luck. I loved the way the silver polish gave it a quick shine without a lot of work. But, a couple of years ago I was given my grandma's silver set. The idea of using the utensils after putting the silver polish on it grossed me out. So, when I heard about how to use toothpaste to clean silver I was so excited.
It works great and is so easy to use. The best part is there isn't a funny smell from the chemicals in silver polish. There is just a nice minty smell.
I highly recommend using the plain old Colgate white paste, no gel. I often get the Colgate free through drugstore deals. Next time you see a good deal on the Colgate pick up a couple extra for silver cleaning.
Start by putting some of the toothpaste on a cleaning cloth(I use these microfiber cloths and love them) or rag. Gently rub the toothpaste over the silver. Within a minute the tarnish will start to disappear. You can see in the picture below where I used the toothpaste to clean the silver. The right side was where I used the toothpaste to clean.
Then, once you have scrubbed all the silver rinse it off under warm water and pat dry.
Your silver will look great without using all the chemicals that are in silver cleaner and your house will smell so fresh. Plus, toothpaste can save you money over buying silver polish.
