Inside: Want to save more money? Check out the top things to stock up on in May and save all year long. It’s an easy way to save more money without much work.
One of my favorite (and one of the easiest!) ways to save money is by stocking up on foods when the prices are at their lowest. I can buy foods for 50-60% of the regular prices. The best part about stocking up when things are on sale is that it doesn’t take a lot of my time. Just stock up to really save money on your grocery bill.
The weather is finally warm here almost all the time and there is a lot of fruits and veggies in season. Check out the top things to stock up on in May.
Seasonal Produce
May is a fantastic time to stock up on seasonal produce. I love it when I start to see strawberries for only $.99 a pound. My family loves strawberry freezer preserves and I love having a fresh salad this time of year. We will also see sales on blueberries, peaches, and pineapples. Stock up on the foods while you can get them at low prices. I love stocking up on strawberries and making strawberry freezer jam.
Some of the best in-season produce this month are Asparagus, Blueberries, Carrots, Cauliflower, Lettuce, Onions, Peaches, Pineapples, Strawberries, and Spinach.
Foods
May starts off with Cinco De Mayo so we will see some awesome sales on tortillas, salsa, and hopefully margaritas. 🙂 I love having tortillas around all year for quesadillas.
May brings warm weather and barbeques. We will see so many sales on ketchup, mustard, and hot dogs. I usually try to buy enough hot dogs for all summer long. They are great to throw on the grill for a last minute lunch. Ketchup and mustard will be the lowest you will see all year. Stock up enough to last until next May.
Other Sales
May is a great time to buy a vacuum if you need one. We will see lots of memorial day sales on vacuums, tv’s, and mattresses.
May is also a wonderful time to get spring clearance items. Raincoats and jackets are now on clearance to make room for swimsuits. I love finding the next size up in clothes for my son on sale this time of year. I don’t think we have ever paid full price for a jacket or coat.
May is the start of garage sale season too. There are so many amazing deals that you can score at garage sales. It’s especially great if you have young kids. Rarely do those younger sizes get used much and I have often found new or nearly new kids clothes.
