When I was a kid we kept our Christmas stockings hung at the foot of our bed. I remember constantly waking up Christmas eve to feel if there was anything in my stocking. As soon as I felt something I would pull it out and try to feel it in the dark to see what it was. It was so exciting, because you knew it was just the start of Christmas.
I love picking out fun stocking gifts for my son now. I like to pick out fun little toys that he wouldn't think of asking for. The $.99 yo-yo has brought hours of entertainment in our house. We don't spend a lot of money on stocking stuffers, usually just a couple of dollars.
So, with Christmas coming up I thought I would put together a list of 10 Stocking Stuffers for under $5. Most of them are great deals on amazon, and others you may get a better deal at the dollar store.
Silly Putty- My son received silly putty a year ago in his stocking and is one of his favorite things he received. It has kept all year long and he still loves playing with it.
Wind Up Flashlight- This wind up flashlight has been another hit with my son. Not only does he use it often, we have actually used it a couple of times when the power goes out.
Coloring Books- Coloring books are a great idea for younger kids. My favorite place to get coloring books is from the dollar store.
Slinky- I love to find toys from my childhood to give as stocking stuffers. A slinky is one of those fun toys that the kids can play with.
Paddle Ball- Paddle ball can be fun for kids of all ages. This is another one that may be better to buy at the dollar store.
Nail Kit- Amazon has some great nail brush kits starting at around $2. Throw in a nail polish or two and you have a great stocking stuffer for teen girls.
Spirograph Set- I loved making designs with my spirograph set when I was a kid. They are fun for all ages and amazon has some starting at $3 with shipping.
Yo-yo- This is my husband's favorite toy. Since finding a deal years ago we have added multiple yo-yo's to our collection.
Knock-Knock Jokes Book- There is a huge amount of knock-knock jokes books that you can get on amazon. For only $3 with shipping this book is a great deal.
Card Games- Card games are a fantastic stocking stuffer. They are perfect to keep the kids entertained after Christmas. I love having games to play at dinner in the evenings.
For just a couple dollars you can find some great toys that can give hours of family entertainment. What were your favorite stocking stuffers when you were a kid and what do you love to put in your kids stockings?

Even as adults, my mom still does stockings for all of us! She puts in items like deodorant, chap stick, toothbrushes, and our favorite...lottery tickets! My daughter is only 2 this year, so we bought a few coloring books, crayons, and some moon putty for her stocking.

That's awesome! Love the lottery ticket idea. My husband always does a white elephant exchange at his work and lottery tickets are always a big hit.
